BAArrage Privacy Policy
Last updated 25 October 2026
In short: BAArrage collects no personal data itself. It works offline, has no accounts of its own and no analytics, and your progress stays on your phone (and in your phone's own backup to your Google account, if it's on). Two things involve Google. If you use Google Play Games, the game sends it your scores and achievements for its leaderboards. And in the free version, when your hull runs out, you can watch an ad to continue, and Google's ad service then receives some data about your device. Premium has no ads.
Who we are
BAArrage is made by Chaotic Phoenix, an independent game developer. You can reach us at contact@chaoticphoenix.com.
What the game keeps on your device
To remember your progress, the game saves a file on your device with:
- your settings (sound, text size, controls and the like),
- your progress: records, unlocked Weapon Cores, ribbons, the skin you wear, and a list of your last climbs,
- reports of your last few climbs: what happened in each, together with your device's model, processor, graphics chip and screen size, and your settings.
The game never sends your progress, your settings or your reports anywhere, except your scores and achievements if you use Google Play Games (below). Uninstalling the game deletes them from your device. Resetting your progress in Settings deletes your progress but keeps your settings.
Your phone's backup
So that a new phone or a reinstall brings your progress back, the game lets Android include its file in your phone's own backup to your Google account, as Android does for apps that allow it. This is Android's backup, not ours: it runs only while backup is on in your phone's settings, Google keeps it under its privacy policy (on Android 9 and later, encrypted with your screen lock if you have one), and we can't see it. You can turn it off, or delete the backup, in your phone's settings or your Google account.
Run reports you choose to share
At the end of a climb you can tap SAVE REPORT. The game then writes that climb's report to your device's Download or Documents folder, or copies it to your clipboard. It goes no further unless you send it to us yourself, for example by email. If you do, we use it only to fix bugs and balance the game, and we delete it if you ask.
Writing to us
CONTACT US in Settings opens your own email app with a message to us, ready to write: its subject is the game and its version, and at its end are the game's version and build and your phone's model and Android version, so we can tell where a problem comes from. Nothing is sent unless you send it, and you can change or delete any of it first. If you write to us, we get your email address and what you write, use them only to answer you and improve the game, and delete them if you ask.
Google Play Games: leaderboards and achievements
BAArrage's leaderboards and achievements are Google Play Games'. If you have a Play Games profile, Google Play Games signs you in as the game starts. If you don't, or you've signed out, you can sign in with SIGN IN on the game's Leaderboards screen, or never. While you're signed in, the game sends Google Play Games:
- your score at the end of each climb, on its leaderboard: how high a daily climb went, how deep a climb went, how long it took to finish the climb, or how deep a Fast Start went. Each score carries a short tag with your player level and the skin you wore, so the game's leaderboards can show them,
- your ribbons, as Play Games achievements, and how far along you are with each.
The Leaderboards screen fetches each board's top scores and your own from Google Play Games: the players' Play Games names, ranks, scores and tags. Other players see your Play Games name and avatar beside your scores, as your Play Games profile settings allow. Google Play Games' own software in the game also sends Google analytics and diagnostic data to keep its service working.
Scores you set while not signed in wait on your device and are sent once you sign in, except a daily climb's, which only counts on its own day. Google handles all of this under its privacy policy. In the Play Games app or your Google account you can choose who sees your profile, sign out, or delete your Play Games data. We see only the leaderboards and achievement statistics Google Play Games shows every developer, and never use them for advertising.
The ad you can choose to watch
Once a climb, in the free version, when your hull runs out you can watch a video ad to keep going with one hull point (a "rewarded ad"). It's the game's only ad: nothing interrupts your play, and you never have to watch one. With no internet connection no ad can be shown, so there's no continue then. Premium continues without an ad, offline too.
The ads come from Google AdMob. The game asks Google for an ad only at that moment, when your hull runs out and your continue is still unused; it doesn't load ads in the background while you play. To find and show the ad, Google's ad software in the game sends Google:
- your device's advertising ID (or app set ID),
- your IP address, from which an approximate location can be worked out,
- information about your device and the game, such as the model, system version and language,
- how you interact with the ad, and diagnostic information if something goes wrong,
- where your phone has them, Android's Privacy Sandbox ad signals: a few broad interest topics Android works out on the phone itself, and ad measurement.
Google uses it to show and measure the ad, limit how often you see the same one and prevent fraud, and to personalise ads only where you have agreed. Google may also share it with the advertising companies it works with to choose and show the ad (its ad partners): where the game shows Google's consent form (below), the form lists them, and your choices there apply to them too. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland the game asks for your choice about personalised ads with Google's consent form, and you can change it at any time under AD PRIVACY in the game's Settings. You can also reset your advertising ID or turn off personalised ads in your phone's settings. How Google handles this data: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Premium
Premium is a one-time purchase through Google Play. Google handles the payment; we only learn that the purchase was made, so the game can turn premium on. Premium shows no ads, so the game never contacts the ad service.
Things the game doesn't do
- It doesn't ask for your name, email, location, contacts or photos.
- It uses no analytics or tracking of its own.
- We don't sell any data, and we hold none about you.
Google Play
You get BAArrage through Google Play, which Google runs under its own privacy policy. We may see the anonymous, aggregated statistics Google Play gives every developer (such as installs and crash reports).
Changes to the game
If a future version adds something else that handles data, we will update this policy before that version is released and say here what it handles and why. Where the law asks for your consent, the game will ask first.
Children
BAArrage is made for teens and adults, not for children under 13. The game itself collects no personal data from anyone.
Your rights
Under data protection laws such as the GDPR you may ask what data we hold about you, and have it corrected or deleted. The game collects none itself, so we hold none, except a run report or an email you have sent us yourself, which we delete on request. For what Google's ad service and Google Play Games hold, see Google's links above. Write to contact@chaoticphoenix.com.
